A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported for PowerFTP. This vulnerability occurs when overly long values are supplied for some FTP commands. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by connecting to a vulnerable system and sending an overly long value to the affected FTP commands. This will trigger the overflow condition and will cause PowerFTP to crash thereby resulting in a denial of service. Although unconfirmed, it may be possible to exploit this vulnerability to run attacker-supplied code with the privileges of PowerFTP.
