A vulnerability has been discovered in PostgreSQL when authenticating certain users. It has been reported that PostgreSQL attempts to allocate memory using a value stored within a user-supplied packet. By forging a malicious packet it may be possible for an attacker to trigger a situation under which an invalid value would be used for memory allocation. This would effectively cause the PostgreSQL process to crash. This issue has been reported to exist in PostgreSQL version 7.2.2 and earlier.
