The Ethereal AFS dissector is a mechanism for decoding the AFS protocol. A vulnerability has been reported in some versions of this dissector. Under some conditions, the Ethereal process may crash and dump core when analysing AFS data. An attacker able to create this condition may cause a denial of service condition.
