The IRIX unified name service daemon (nsd) provides a generic interface to a number of network lookup services, including DNS, NIS and LDAP. A vulnerability exists with some versions of the nsd. Limits imposed on the size of the nsd cache are not properly imposed. Under some circumstances, a remote attacker is able to cause the cache size to grow without limit. In time, this could exhaust all available disk space, leading to a denial of service condition.
