Reportedly Microsoft Backup for Windows 95 contains an exploitable buffer overflow. A file placed in one of the system backup file-sets, consisting of an unusually long file extension (approximately 128 characters), could result in a buffer overflow when the file is encountered during backup. This overflow could overwrite stack variables, including the return address. This may result in execution of arbitrary code. However, sending random data could cause the application to crash.
