IrDA (Infrared Data Association) is the standard protocol for transmitting data using infrared devices. Microsoft Windows 2000's software which handles IrDA contains an unchecked buffer which could result in an overflow condition if sent a specifically crafted IrDA packet resulting in a system reboot. This vulnerability could result in a denial of service condition if the target system was continually sent these malformed packets.
