timed is the time daemon, a software package designed to synchronize the clocks of multiple systems. FreeBSD is a BSD based operating system distributed and maintained by the FreeBSD Project. A problem in the timed included with FreeBSD may result in a denial of service. Upon receiving malformed packets consisting of less information than expected, timed dies. The service does not continue until timed is restarted manually. This problem makes it possible for a malicious remote user to deny service to legitimate users of the timed service, and could be used in an attempt to obscure intrusion detection. Additionally, this vulnerability affects Linux systems using the vulnerable software.
